Historic St. Paul's Chapel, located on the
corner of Generals Highway and Crownsville
Road in Crownsville, MD, was built in 1861.
George Washington passed by that corner
when he traveled on Generals Highway in
1783 on his way to the Maryland State House
in Annapolis, where he resigned his
commission and went on to become the
nation's first president.
Due to its unique board-and-batten Victorian
Gothic (Gothic Revival) architecture, St. Paul's
Chapel is on the National Historic Register.
In its almost 150-year old history, St. Paul's has seen a lot of changes.
Today St. Paul's is home to St. Paul's Anglican Church, a congregation
of the Anglican Province of America (APA). Christ Lutheran Church was
founded on Epiphany Sunday 2008. As a young congregation, we do
not yet own our own property and are very grateful to St. Paul's Anglican
Church for the permission to celebrate Mass in this beautiful historic
building.
Worship space always has
a great influence on the
question how we worship
and on the overall worship
experience. Once you enter
St. Paul's Chapel, you
cannot help but notice the
sacred beauty that
surrounds you. The chapel
seats 75 people and its size
creates a very familiar
atmosphere.
